"John plays golf regularly.
But he has never managed a hole in one before, so he was delighted.
He was perhaps less pleased after buying everyone a drink, since the round came to GBP 180," explained Paul Cassidy, Independent's product manager.
Twenty-four people attended the golf day including Independent staff and chairman Mike Gee, along with invited representatives of the company's suppliers.
The event was sponsored by M-Real and companies represented included Stephen Austin and Sons, The Lamplight Group, True Colours and Howard Hunt City.
Together they raised GBP 1,000 for the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit at the Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.
"The golf day was an all-round success.
As an independent company, our focus is on customer service and we pride ourselves on the relationships we have built with not just with our customers but also with our suppliers.
We are also delighted that we were able to raise so much money for the special care baby unit, a truly worthwhile cause," explained Cassidy.
