Independent Paper's Amadeus paper range has attained Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) scheme accreditation.
Commenting on the appointment, Mike Gee, the company's managing director, said following the successful launch of the new central warehouse at Bardon, that Hughes's appointment would help the paper merchanting group to increase its presence across the UK.
He added: "With all the consolidation occurring in the larger merchanting groups, now is a great time for a truly independent British group to increase its offer to customers." Hughes said: "I believe an independent paper merchant can be as competitive as the larger merchants but able to offer a more flexible service." Denmaur Papers has been trading since 1983 and is the UK's largest independent paper merchant group.
The group turnover exceeds GB73m with sales of paper of over 135,000 metric tonnes, the majority of of which are sold to printers, publishers and other business users.
The group has offices in Sittingbourne, London, Leicester, Wakefield and Warrington.
