Strategies estimates that in 2002 almost 212 billion pages were printed on ink jet and colour EP printers.
However, not all pages printed on colour devices are printed in colour.
According to estimates, more than 50% of these pages (112 billion) were printed in colour.
By 2007, the percentage of colour pages will increase to 59%.
Of the pages printed in colour in 2002, three quarters of them were printed on EP printers, which include desktop colour lasers, connected colour copiers and digital presses.
This percentage is expected to increase to 84% by 2007 as colour laser printers continue to replace monochrome printers.
According to Patti Williams, Consulting Partner at I.T.
Strategies: "In the digital printer market, all growth markets involve the sale of colour print technology.
In the home consumer market, ink jet is virtually the only technology used to print in colour.
For vendors, the significance of users printing in colour is the generation of higher value consumables - both chemistry (ink and toner) and media.".
