Pre-press specialist J Jays has won the award for 'production initiative of the year within a supplier company' at the UK Periodical Publishers Association's (PPA)annual Magazine Production Awards.

The company was also highly commended in the repro company of the year category.

J Jays was awarded the prize for: 'advancing the magazine production process' with its Mosaic system, an on-line workflow tool developed in collaboration with Reed Business Information.

Mosaic offers the individual journal teams of magazine publishers on-line access to a real-time page progress monitor for their publications.

Editorial, advertising and production teams have total visibility and process control from their desktops, covering all page elements including advertisements, images and editorial copy, said J Jays.

According to the judging panel: 'much work has gone in to formulating the product.

This tool provides transparency and takes planning to the next step'.

Alan Halls, the managing director of J Jays, said: "We are completely thrilled for achieving this.

It is very gratifying to get this level of recognition within the industry for what has been a project close to our hearts for some time now.

We are determined to develop Mosaic further and make it available for more publishers to benefit from in their production process.".
