Kalamazoo Security Print has received a Grade 1 mark from standards agency PIRA International for toner adhesion on its new range of security cheques.

Kalamazoo Security Print has received a Grade 1 mark from standards agency PIRA International for toner adhesion on its new range of security cheques The PIRA tests, which mimic attempts to fraudulently tamper with cheques after laser printing, relate to the removal of toner by three methods of attack - Blu-Tack, scalpel and tape resistance - and are carried out under controlled conditions, in comparison to a PIRA benchmark sample

A Grade 1 rating offers the highest degree of security.

Grade 1 is 0 is equivalent to 1%-10% removal and was achieved on Kalamazoo's new range of security cheques across all three methods of attack.

PIRA's benchmark sample is Grade 2, which produces 10%-50% removal with evidence of paper damage.

Kalamazoo's cheques achieved the Grade 1 mark with APV (adhesion promoting varnish) included.

Even without APV, Kalamazoo samples reached the standard PIRA Grade 2 rating.

Kalamazoo believes its new cheque security features exceed tough new guidelines implemented on September 30 2003 by APACS.

The standards have been designed to fight rising fraud levels and the increasing sophistication in technology being used for altering and counterfeiting purposes.

Martin Wardhaugh, managing director of Kalamazoo Security Print said: "The PIRA results are excellent news and reinforce the levels of quality and security offered across our product ranges.".
