Two Kall Kwik operators have won a prestigious national business award backed by HSBC bank for their success in running an Edinburgh print, design and copy centre.

Mark and Jemima McCluskey received the first prize of £5,000 at the British Franchise Association's (BFA) Franchisee of the Year Awards.

The husband and wife business partnership built a thriving print, design and copy business by investing in the latest digital production techniques.

In eight years they have added ?1 million to their turnover and moved up Kall Kwik's national performance table from 120th to seventh place.

Fifty percent of the McClusky's turnover is now generated as a direct result of their investment in new technology.

They claim that their work-flow system has helped other centres across the Kall Kwik network to raise their productivity levels.

HSBC's national franchise manager, Cathryn Hayes said: "Mark and Jemima have demonstrated the major advantages of running a business through a franchise network.

They have achieved outstanding commercial success and thanks to their innovation others within the Kall Kwik network will benefit." Two years ago Mark and Jemima invested in a new 3,500 sq ft production centre and this has also been used as a model for the 166 franchised outlets in Kall Kwik's network.

The facility is also said to have greatly improved the working environment.
