All-Out, a new general commercial printer in Woodridge, Illinois (USA) is targeting the large format market and differentiating itself from the 40" sector with a KBA Rapida 142 56" five-colour press.

The new press will be installed in All-Out's 25,000 square foot facility this month.

The Rapida 142 with coater is equipped with a range of KBA systems, including KBA's Densitronic S closed loop colour control and a combined density and colour measuring system for quality control during and after printing.

All-Out has chosen to add an in-line slitter at the delivery end of the press to give it the flexibility to cut the 56" sheets after printing in to two-up jobs to fit the client's needs, thereby increasing speed and throughput, and decreasing waste.

J B Capuano, All-Out's president, said: "Our main goal in serving our customers is to be able to offer them a wide variety of printing, from large format to short-run, variable, on-demand work.

The new KBA Rapida 142 will allow us to produce all types of commercial work, as well as packaging and point-of-purchase, whilst a new Kodak Nexpress installed in June is giving us the ability to produce short-run personalised variable work.

All-Out was formed by a core group of employees led by Capuano, whose father had started a family-owned general commercial printing business and subsequently sold it to Consolidated Graphics six-and-a-half years ago.

After working under the new firm for several years, Capuano wanted to strike out on his own with his own printing business.

Last November, the group formed its new company and acted as print brokers for its designer, advertising agency and corporate clientele clustered mainly in the Midwest.

Capuano explained: "We chose the name All-Out because our motto is to go all-out for our customers.

Since we had been in the 40" conventional sheetfed market for so many years, we knew we didn't want our new business to be just another 40" printer.

We wanted to be different.

We don't want to be pigeon-holed.

And he continued: "Buying the 56" KBA press differentiates us in the marketplace and gives us much more flexibility to produce a variety of work.

We will be able to focus on adding accounts, such as point of purchase, display, label and high end cosmetic packaging.

He added that the company had done extensive research and looked at many presses from other manufacturers before it chose the KBA Rapida 142.

And Bob Pawlicki, All Out's account representative, said: "After comparing all of the various models on the market, we believe the KBA is the best.

That coupled with a brand new state of the art pre-press department headed up by Craig Rehr and we will be set.

During the next few months, the firm will be gearing up for the arrival and installation of the press.

After visiting KBA's headquarters in Germany to see his press being built and leaving the factory very impressed with the workmanship and technology, Capuano returned to Germany in early June for sign off with his vice president of operations, Gordon Gizowski.

Dan Kotas, another account representative at All-Out, added: "Once we have both presses up and running, we'll hold an open house.

Our clients trust that we've chosen the best possible equipment on the market and they are excited to have their jobs running under our own roof.
