Another Press Order Before First Press Installed
The partnership between Media General and KBA North America continues to grow stronger, according to the US arm of the German press manufacturer.
The new press was delivered last December and was running at full production by the second week of January.
David L Culver, president of Parlor City Paper Box, said: "This is our second KBA sheetfed press.
Our first Rapida 105 41-inch sheetfed press was a four-colour model.
We've installed a second press to help us increase our volume and give us additional colour capabilities, since a majority of our work is six to seven colours.
We've also had the press prepared for hybrid UV capabilities since we may need that capability in the future." He added: "The new press is also equipped with a lot of automation that we didn't have before, such as Logotronic management system and the Densitronic S combined density and colour measuring system for quality control both during and after printing." Since the installation of the press the firm is already reporting reduced make-ready times, faster running speeds and the ability to turn its five-colour to seven-colour jobs in shorter turn-around times, particularly with the jobs being specified at 5,000 to 10,000 sheets.
Bruce Culver, one of David Culver's sons who also runs the business, said: "We're loyal KBA customers because it produces the best board press on the market.
The level of quality built in to the press allows us to produce the highest-quality job in the fastest amount of time.
Even with all of the automation on the new press, our pressmen have quickly changed to the new press." Established in 1902, Parlor City Paper Box is a privately-held, family-owned firm with 44 employees.
Catering to a variety of customers, mostly in the north east of the USA, the firm produces premium-style packaging.
The firm recently completed a 22,000 square foot addition to its 136,000 square foot facility.
