On-Press Scanning System Reduces
Make-Ready Waste
KBA North America is introducing a new feature to its closed-loop Densitronic S scanning spectrodensitometer system that will reduce waste.

KBA Strengthens American Newspaper Press Presence
Citing the press's high degree of technological flexibility, Wisconsin (USA) Bliss Communications has selected a KBA Comet.
The new feature, Dynamic Control, will make a difference to printers as it calculates ink surges based on a reference sheet and opens the ink keys to a specific target according to what is needed to achieve the reference densities.
KBA believes that it significantly reduces spoilage and waste whilst streamlining jobs faster than before.
Since its introduction last year, several North American customers have installed Dynamic Control on their presses and have seen lower make-ready and higher profits.

KBA's Genius Press's Predictable Colour Quality
Offset and digital printing company The Mallard Press in Lombard, Illinois (USA) is delivering fast, high-quality four-color jobs using its new KBA-Metronic Genius 52 UV press.
Crystal Flutur, KBA product specialist, said: "Printers are trying to be more mindful of their colour control, especially with high quality fast turn-around work.
Densitronic S with Dynamic Control is the solution.
This new feature puts printers in even more control of their work by drastically reducing make-ready waste on press, as well as reducing the number of sheets up to full press production." Dynamic Control is an optional software feature that is available immediately to printers using KBA presses with Densitronic S scanning densitometer systems.
New system installations will be activated during the first training session.
Re-fitting is possible of all KBA presses supplied from 1995 to date.
Re-fitting of the press console is not necessary in most cases, added the company.
Flutur continued: "Dynamic Control on the Densitronic S sets KBA apart from other press manufacturers.
For example, the typical inking unit construction of another press manufacturer can need up to 900 sheets to adjust the values.
Even the fast-reacting units used on a KBA press can lead to up to 700 sheets to adjust colour.
With Dynamic Control, the reference density is reached at a set number of sheets.
Even in zones with five per cent area coverage and less the reference can be reached at about 120 sheets." The KBA Densitronic S is a combined density and colour measuring system for quality control during and after printing.
The company claimed that unlike other systems, Densitronic S also permits direct measurements within the image.
Deviations from defined target densities, colour values and other quality parameters (dot gain and trapping, for instance) are recognised and displayed quickly in comparison to hand-held measuring devices.
With integration for online control, the density and spectral deviations are converted in to corrective adjustments for the individual ink keys, added KBA.
The Densitronic S controls the density and spectral parameters of each sheet by measuring along control strips, or directly on the image.
