Commercial Printers in Florida, has been increasing its output and posting 125 per cent faster make-ready since the installation of its KBA Rapida 105 41-inch five-colour perfector press with coater.

Whilst the South Florida firm did not replace any of its existing presses, the new press, supplied by KBA North America, provided much needed capacity and automation Before installing the KBA press, Commercial Printers, was using a less-automated 40-inch sheetfed press and a few smaller-format presses

Now the firm has the ability to produce straight printing, which is 70 per cent of its workload and perfecting, which is 30 per cent of its business.

Jeff Runde, president of Commercial Printers, said: "Our new KBA 41-inch-perfector press has been giving us the quality, speed, and flexibility that we needed.

This is our first KBA press and we couldn't be more pleased.

It allows us to compete on longer run jobs, such as magazines, and it gives us the flexibility to print straight five-colour jobs at 18,000sph or two-over-three perfector jobs at 15,000sph." He continued: "Our KBA gives us the flexibility to print an increasing number of straight or perfecting jobs in a much faster fashion because the press is equipped with fully-automatic auto plate loading, auto wash-up and the KBA Densitronic S system.

Our make-readies are 125 per cent faster than before and we have been able to add a lot more work.

The coater on the press gives us the ability to do some beautiful special effect work that we couldn't do before and because we can coat jobs now it has accelerated the bindery process." Runde explained that the company is more efficient and can pass those efficiencies to its customers.

Commercial Printers has cut waste because of the new press because it is not using as much paper and all of the savings will allow it to keep investing in new technology.

Commercial Printers is a family-run business that was established in 1970.

The 55-employee firm occupies a 40,000 square foot facility in Pompano Beach, Florida (USA).

It has long-term relationships with its customers.
