Perfect Binder Speeds Reports And Catalogues
With clients demanding fast turnaround and high quality for binding reports and accounts and art and auction catalogues J Muir Bookbinders in Blackheath (UK) has upgraded its ageing perfect binder.
Case Binding Line Removes Trade Binders' Handwork
Robinson and Mornin, the Belfast (Northern Ireland) trade binders was looking to upgrade its old case binding line, particularly wanting to eradicate much of the handwork involved.
"We keep going back to Komori partly because we get a service that is absolutely second to none," said Plan 4 Print managing director Kelvin Wellard, who founded the company 16 years ago.
"We currently employ 20 people, so we're not large and we've found that companies of our size can often be poorly treated by some press manufacturers.
Komori has always been attentive to our requirements and with the Lithrone being such a leading quality press, the choice is obvious," he continued.
Plan 4 Print started life as a repro house, moving into print 18 months later with its first Komori press.
Today it operates a range of pre-press, press and finishing facilities, supplying work to a variety of local printers and advertising agencies.
"The Lithrones have proved to be extremely reliable, and produce a very sharp dot combined with excellent rolling power for handling large solids.
The new Lithrone will be interfaced with our Screen CTP system, which will enable us to reduce our make-readies even further.
We will also be taking this opportunity to upgrade the existing Lithrones so that we can set up these presses with job data from the CTP system," commented Wellard.
The equipment at the Derbyshire site includes a Linotype drum scanner, a memento of its early days as a repro house.
"We still use it for some work.
It gives us the ability to handle the more difficult colour work, which is why we need the Lithrones because they enable us to continue that level of quality throughout the pressroom," said Wellard.
Plan 4 Print moved into its current 10,500 square foot site three years ago and has recently taken on additional staff as part of its expansion programme.
Other equipment at the Ilkeston site includes die cutting and creasing and stitching.
