With clients demanding fast turnaround and high quality for binding reports and accounts and art and auction catalogues J Muir Bookbinders in Blackheath (UK) has upgraded its ageing perfect binder Muir's managing director Peter Covington said: "We wanted a machine that was quick and easy to set up, that would run faster and obviously be more reliable than the old one." After seeing a Kolbus KM 470 machine in action he decided it was right for the job

Now that the installation is complete Covington is even more sure that it made the right choice.

"It does everything it says on the box.

The very first jobs we put on the Kolbus ran perfectly," he commented.

Muir's has been in business for over a century and on the same south London site for the past 35 years.

Added Covington: "We have two perfect binding lines plus sewers, folders and case binding.

Space is at a premium so the Kolbus machine's small footprint was quite important.

With fast make-ready and running at 6,000 per hour the KM 470 will ensure deadlines are met and work will not take up valuable storage space." Putting cloth on to book blocks for case binding is something else the Kolbus KM 470 will be able to do, automating a job which had previously taken days by hand.

Also, being able to offer PUR binding will take Muir's in to new markets, he concluded.
