Konica Minolta Printing Solutions Europe has introduced its Magicolor 5500 series range of colour laser printers.

Konica Minolta Printing Solutions Europe has introduced its Magicolor 5500 series range of colour laser printers From medium-sized workgroups to enterprise workplaces, it is said to meet the needs of the most demanding environments

The Magicolor 5500 series printers are claimed to produce monochrome pages at 35 pages per minutes (ppm) and colour print-outs at 30ppm, as well as banner prints of sizes up to 216mm x 1,200mm.

Due to its three-object segmentation and new ASIC technology, the Magicolor 5500 series is also claimed to differentiate between text, graphics and images, giving it the ability to maximise toner efficiency.

Additionally, by choosing the 'economy mode' option, customers can save up to 50 per cent on toner without compromising print quality when printing business documents, said Konica Minolta.

Frank Akihary, general manager of sales and marketing at Konica Minolta Printing Solutions EMEA, said: "Konica Minolta's focus is to increase the presence of our colour laser printers in the enterprise market by providing systems that meet the complex needs of our customers.

With its groundbreaking innovations, the Magicolor 5500 series goes beyond the limits by delivering customers superior quality and performance, whilst contributing to a lower total cost of ownership." Simitri HD, Konica Minolta's polymerised toner, offers print quality and durability that rivals offset printing, added the company.

It is said that commercial printed material will last longer, due to its increased resistance to UV light and peeling, that can occur when documents are folded.

Combined with Photoart-9600 (600 x 600 4-bit contone resolution) technology, it is also said to provide accurately graduated print-outs.

Simitri HD polymerised toner is claimed to operate at a lower temperature (saving up to 15 per cent more energy) which also reduces paper jams, resulting in increased productivity.

Due to its manufacturing process, it emits 40 per cent less CO2, NOx and SOx than conventional pulverised toners.

Konica Minolta's Emperon 4 technology provides compatibility with major printing languages (PostScript3, PCL 6), operating systems, business applications (SAP, Citrix Metaframe) as well as PDF and JPEG/TIFF direct print emulation (it also runs from USB memory sticks) claimed the company.

As with all Konica Minolta Emperon products, printer management tools, such as the Pagescope Suite, are included, providing a way for users and system administrators to manage and configure printers and MFPs in the local business network and remotely.

Informatio,n such as real time supply status and troubleshoot details, can be monitored from virtually anywhere, using a web browser, it is said.

Additional plug-ins are available for HP Openview, IBM Tivoli NetView, CA Unicenter, and Microsoft Management Console.

The Magicolor 5500 series is available in two models - the Magicolor 5570 with a claimed print speed of 30ppm colour and 35ppm monochrome and processing power, is it said to be suitable for any workgroup, design or other heavy duty environments where high-quality and fast output is essential.

A PowerPC 867 MHZ processor and 256 MB RAM are built in, which enables it to handle heavy print jobs, added the company.

With 25.6ppm in colour and 30ppm in monochrome, the Magicolor 5550 is said to provide high performance with added versatility.

It has a PowerPC 733 MHZ processor and 256 MB RAM.

The Magicolor 5500 series has an optional two-bin staple finisher, which is claimed to can staple (at a 45degree angle) and sort documents, just like a copier.

The standard 600-sheet paper capacity can be increased to a maximum of 1,600 sheets.

With an optional hard disk drive, users can access features such as security printing, which allows documents to remain confidential by delaying output until a personal password is typed in.

Features such as staple finisher, downloading fonts, job accounting and overlays are also available after installing a compact flash card, which is also optional.

The Powerpack is included with the Magicolor 5500 series.

The first programme of its kind, it provides a range of complementary services to enhance user's printing experience.

Customers can benefit from up to three years warranty, guaranteed return value on a replacement printer, discount on bundled options and free training and software.

Included in the Powerpack is the Clean Planet program, Konica Minolta's return cartridge recycling programme that provides businesses a way to contribute towards environmental conservation.

The Magicolor 5500 series is supplied ready to use, including a pre-installed set of consumables.

The toner cartridges for black, cyan, magenta and yellow can be replaced individually with cartridges with a print capacity of 12,000 or 6,000 (CMYK), added the company.

The print units carry a capacity of 30,000 each.

The printer has an on-site warranty of one year that can be expanded to a maximum of five years.
