Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) has been awarded a contract to supply the University of Central Lancashire with 140 Bizhub document imaging systems.

Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) has been awarded a contract to supply the University of Central Lancashire with 140 Bizhub document imaging systems.

The contract was awarded through the NEUPG (North Eastern Universities Purchasing Group) and SUPC (Southern University Purchasing Consortium) framework agreements after a tender process involving five potential suppliers, which could offer public sector 'framework' agreements.

Under the new agreement Konica Minolta will begin installing systems from the middle of this year at the three university sites in Preston, Penrith and Carlisle.

Konica Minolta will carry out a print strategy survey to determine the optimum Bizhub system for each university department, with a view to reducing costs through 'print flow' technology.

Konica Minolta will also be supplying systems from the Bizhub Pro range of production print devices for the university's central reprographics department (CRD).

That will include a Bizhub Pro 1050, that is claimed to produce 6,300 impressions an hour (105 prints per minute).

Designed as a complete document production system with optional on-line print finishing units for six-way folding, booklet making and post inserting, the Bizhub Pro 1050 can print variable data on to stock up to A3 and over.

Two Bizhub Pro 920 systems that are said to be capable of producing 5,520 mono A4 prints an hour (92 prints per minute), and a Bizhub Pro C500 with a production speed of 3,000 A4 impressions an hour in either full colour or mono will also be supplied for CRD use.

The University of Central Lancashire is the second major education sector contract secured by Konica Minolta in the north west of England.

Hugh Baird College, a tertiary college and one of the largest providers of education and training in the Merseyside area, is already Konica Minolta customer.

Commenting on the contract Edward Trueman, account manager for Konica Minolta Public Sector Solutions, said: "The contract was won against stiff competition from four other suppliers.

I'm pleased to say that Konica Minolta was the unanimous choice of the University's photocopier project team, made up of cross faculty and service representation and Martina Tweedie, head of CRD, project managed by Andrew Bell, head of purchasing for the university.".
