Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jun 12, 2007

The new Bizhub C451 multi-function imaging system, features a network printer, copier and network scanner functions can print or copy in colour and mono at 45 pages per minute.

Konica Minolta Business Solutions said that the Bizhub C451 offers the same mono cost per print as a conventional black and white copier-printer, which means customers can upgrade to the Bizhub C451 without paying a premium on mono output, whilst getting the versatility of a true colour multi-function system.

For access by users of all abilities the Bizhub C451design includes a full-colour 8.5-inch display, with a touch screen that can be rotated and tilted to suit a desired position.

The screen also features thumbnails of each job in the user box for recall and re-routing.

Konica Minolta added that the Bizhub C451 uses new induction fusing technology for lower temperature fusing, reducing energy consumption and producing less paper curl than conventional fusing.

That also gives the Bizhub C451 a warm-up time of only 85 seconds from cold and a 12-second start stand-by.

In addition the system benefits uses Konica Minolta's patented Simitri HD polymerised toner with smaller, smoother, more uniform toner particles for more even distribution for better fine line definition and better solid fills.

The Bizhub C451 features new slit scan technology so it can scan originals at a claimed rate of up to 70 colour or mono sheets per minute at 300 dots per inch (dpi) resolution.

For customers using archiving software that is said to allow high speed and accurate scanning of documents, which can also be sent externally via email, to an FTP server or to a user's personal folder on their desktop.

In common with all Konica Minolta's Bizhub systems the company said that the C451 uses Bizhub open platform architecture and features the latest Emperon image controller to provide a unified driver for the print and scan functions, as well as network integration.

The image controller supports PCL6c and PostScript Level 3 printing as standard.

A 60 gigabyte hard drive provides up to 1,000 user boxes that can be designated for personal or public access.

Boxes can store print, scan, copy and fax jobs and jobs can be moved or copied from one box to another.

The main display shows a colour thumbnail of the front page of stored jobs.

Access to personal user boxes can be protected by a box user authentication password.

The Bizhub C451 is available with a range of finishing options, including sorting, stapling and saddle stitching, as well as two-hole and four-hole punching.

A Super G3 fax module is also an option.

John Howard, head of marketing for Konica Minolta (UK), said: "Customers can now upgrade to a true colour system without incurring additional black and white printing costs.

This makes the Bizhub C451 an ideal and cost-effective replacement for older analogue copiers and first generation digital multi-functionals.

Because the Bizhub C451 features advanced user authentication, customers can control user access to features, such as colour printing to control costs.".
