Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jun 27, 2008

A new digital colour printing system from Konica Minolta Business Solutions has won the award for the best productivity hardware at the Macworld Awards.

The new A3 Magicolor 8650DN printer won the award against competing systems from such manufacturers as OKI, Brother, Lexmark and Xerox.

It is the second successive such award for Konica Minolta following the Magicolor 7450's success last year.

And the latest accolade comes after the Magicolor 8650DN was voted as the editor's choice in the Macworld Awards in a review of all the new A3 printers on the market.

The judge's citation said: "The Magicolor 8650DN is at the time of writing, the current top-end A3+ model (with the 7450 immediately below) and it's a very impressive beast indeed." With a 1Ghz, 64 BIT memory and a claimed 35 pages per minute print speed, Konica Minolta said that the Magicolor 8650DN has a duty cycle of up to 150,000 prints per month.

The printer uses Simitri HD polymerised toner combined with Photoart 19200 technology, printing at a claimed 600 x 600 x 5-bit contone.

Mark Lloyd, director of the IT channel for Konica Minolta Business Solutions, said: "We are a class above in the A3 market.

Our A3 printers are becoming an essential product in the creative design business.".
