Two new Komori presses, a 10-colour Lithrone S29H Perfector and a five-colour Lithrone S29H, will help Matthews the Printers increase client service and quality when they are installed this summer.
The Lithrone L526 replaces a Heidelberg MO and we have managed to reduce make-ready times down from 50 minutes to just 15.
Even more impressive is that we are now achieving speeds of 15,000 sheets per hour when previously we were only reaching 9,000sph," said Express managing director Paul Hampton.
He said that the company had considered other makes of press before investing in the Lithrone but the fast make-readies and top quality of the machine together with Komori's professionalism made the decision an easy one.
"We initially looked at 28" models but a 26" press handles SRA2 paper and this format meets the needs of the markets we serve.
There was no need to invest further.
The installation ran very smoothly and Komori provided comprehensive training," commented Hampton.
"The new Lithrone has significantly increased our capacity, and jobs that would have taken five days to complete, can now be done in just over three.
What's more, we can now handle a greater spread of work with the ability to print either five colours or four and a seal.
This is a huge advantage to customers and means we can offer greater control and a faster turnaround," he added.
He said that the Lithrone's economy applied to short runs of 200 up to long runs of 250,000 or more and that would the company to expand its customer base.
Express Printing has also installed an Agfa CTP system to complement the new press and already operates a fully equipped finishing department.
