Commercial printer Pelican Print has installed a five-colour Komori Lithrone L528 as part of an investment to increase capacity at its premises in Buckinghamshire (UK).

Commercial printer Pelican Print has installed a five-colour Komori Lithrone L528 as part of an investment to increase capacity at its premises in Buckinghamshire (UK).

The press has joined an existing six-colour Lithrone L628.

"We commissioned the first Komori press three years ago and it has been so successful that we are running the press 24 hours a day, six days a week.

However, with the subsequent increase in demand, we needed another press to keep up with our growing customer base and it seemed only natural to invest in another Komori Lithrone," said director Scott Brookes.

"We have been extremely impressed with the fast turn-arounds and high quality of work we are producing on the six-colour Lithrone L628.

Our run lengths are as diverse as 300 to 100,000 and the press copes very well with this, on stock ranging from 65gsm to 400gsm.

We wanted another press that would function at the same high standard and that our minders would be familiar with.

The new five-colour Lithrone L528 has the same specification level and will complement the Lithrone L628 in allowing us to produce more spot colour work and jobs requiring a sealer." The installation of the new press was accompanied by a move by Pelican Print into CIP4.

Komori is supplying software to enable both Lithrones to be CIP4 compatible, which in turn will reduce wastage and make-ready time by automating set up procedures.

"Komori is one of the leading press manufacturers and offers top of the range competitive presses, which are extremely cost effective.

We have managed to stay busy even through difficult times and that has been down to the quality of work we produce on our Lithrone.

Investment is crucial in this industry and we believe that we have invested very wisely indeed," added Brookes.

He and fellow Pelican directors Adam Budd and Gerald Costello started Pelican Print in 1998.

The company has comprehensive pre-press and finishing facilities and produces a wide range of commercial work.
