New Komori Perfector Steps In To Capacity Breach
Andy Brown, the managing director at CP Offset, faced a challenge with the retirement of one of his most experienced minders, who represented 20 per cent of the firm's capacity.
"We had a very successful sales drive that has added GBP400,000 of new business and we reached a point where we needed to increase our print capacity," said Goodson, who formed the company with his brother Darren in 1985.
"When we saw a demonstration of the new Spica we were impressed by both the build and print quality and the flexibility to print four-colours straight or two-back-two in one pass.
It's a tremendous entry level four-colour B2 press and we have specified our Spica to take the same plate size as a Heidelberg 74, so we have been able to sell one of our two-colour Heidelbergs.

GBP 3m Presses Gear Up High Quality B2 Capability
A GBP 3m investment at Sherwood Press has included the installation of a six-colour Lithrone LS640P press and the order of a four-colour SPICA 429P perfector, due for delivery this month.
Although there is not the same level of automation on the Spica the monthly repayments are significantly less, the Komori press is much more compact in footprint size and it provides greater versatility," he added.
He continued to say that the installation and training on the Spica went smoothly, with the press proving to be very easy to operate.
It has only been in use for a week but the company has already printed two-colour work with heavy solids and four-colour jobs.
The Premier Print Group is now looking to expand its client base even further and win work from outside the London area.
The company, which employs 45 people, specialises in business-to-business publications, printing more than 100 titles every month.
More than 20 new titles have been added during the recent sales push.
Gary Goodson's enthusiasm for the press is echoed by his brother Darren.
"Our five-colour Lithrone L526 is in use 24 hours, six days a week, so this is flat out handling four-colour jobs.
We also print a significant amount of two-colour work and we'll have the option to use the Spica for this, or switch to straight mode to help out with four-colour orders," said Darren Goodson.
"A few days after we began production on the Spica we split one four-colour job between the Lithrone L526 and the new Komori press - the quality of the printed material was the same.
It was very impressive to see on a press that is so compact, a benefit of particular importance in London where floor space is at a premium.
We're now looking to increase turnover by 25 per cent during 2005 and will be targeting specialist publications, where quick turnaround and consistent quality are vital.
The new Komori Spica will be pivotal to that growth," he added. Request a free brochure from Komori UK ...
