Two Komori Presses To Increase Quality And Service
Two new Komori presses, a 10-colour Lithrone S29H Perfector and a five-colour Lithrone S29H, will help Matthews the Printers increase client service and quality when they are installed this summer.
As part of the expansion programme Sherwood Press is moving its B2 printing facilities to its main Nottingham premises, which specialises in high quality B1 output.
Presses at that site include a five-colour Lithrone L540 equipped with two coaters and reverse printing facilities, a six-colour Lithrone L640 and the recently installed six-colour Lithrone L640P perfector with coater.
Sherwood managing director Jeremy Bacon said: "Although most of our output is B1 format there is a significant demand for high quality B2 colour work and the SPICA provides an ideal, flexible machine, enabling us to offer fast turn-around of four-colour and two-back-two perfected work.

Komori claimed a new world record when one of its System 38S web presses completed three different jobs under 13 minutes during a demonstration at Drupa 2008.
Komori Presses Win Emission Testing Approval
Komori has been awarded three BG CE Emission Tested certificates by The Berufsgenossenschaft Druck und Papierverarbeitung at Drupa 2008.
However, I think most of the work produced on our new SPICA will be printed four-colours both sides.
Even though that means we have to put the job through the press twice, I believe its low entry cost will make us as competitive as someone with a long B2 perfector.
What we have with the SPICA and the Lithrones is huge versatility plus the ability to handle short and long run high quality colour work extremely cost effectively.
We've already seen a significant increase in productivity since the commissioning of the LS640P and even when printing 0.6mm thick board the press achieves exceptional print quality at speeds of 14,000 sheets per hour (sph).
The LS640P also provides very quick make-readies, making it efficient for runs from 1,000 to more than 100,000." The investment by Sherwood Press also includes the purchase of additional pre-press and finishing equipment, while the Nottingham factory has been extensively rebuilt to house the additional facilities.
Staff numbers have increased during the last few months by 10 to around 100 people.
The company is calibrating all its Komori presses and will benefit from operating CIP4, pre-setting ink ducts and other press parameters by using the digital job data from the Creo pre-press system.
Sherwood Press operates all its Komoris on a double shift basis, supplying work to the packaging market, as well as the greetings card, corporate and educational sectors.
"This latest investment has created a state-of-the-art printing factory that will ensure that we continue to provide our customers with a first class quality and service.
Komori has been a key part of our success and the new SPICA and Lithrone LS640P will keep us at the forefront of sheet-fed printing technology," added Bacon. Request a free brochure from Komori UK ...
