First SPICA Press In Ireland Meets Demand
Collins Print has installed Ireland's first Komori SPICA 429P perfector at its premises in Cork, replacing a four-colour B2 Heidelberg Speedmaster perfector.
Brown commented: "We either had to simply recruit again or invest in a press that would provide us with a greater throughput of quality four-colour work.
We were operating two two-colour B2 Rolands, a two-colour Oliver and a single-colour Oliver and Heidelberg.
What we really needed was a four-colour press because the level of this type of work has grown over the last five years from 20 per cent to 60 per cent of our turnover.

New Press Turns Out Colour Work Quickly
London commercial printer the Premier Print Group has commissioned the UK's first Komori Spica 429P perfector and has already produced a wide range of four-colour and two-sided two-colour work.
We looked at all the leading manufacturers but the new Komori SPICA fits the bill so well that if I had to specify a sheet-fed press from scratch it would turn out to be the SPICA.
We looked at B2 presses between GBP 300,000 to GBP 400,000 but nothing in that price range provides the flexibility of the SPICA, which can be used as a two-back-two or a straight four-colour machine." He continued to say that when the Darlington (UK) company examined what was available on the market second hand presses were also considered but to purchase a good quality used four-colour B2 press was virtually the same as buying a new SPICA, which came with a full warranty and the most up to date design features.
"We particularly liked the speed and ease with which the Komori press can be changed between perfecting and straight printing.
We believe the new SPICA will appeal to existing and new customers alike.
The SPICA takes up the same floor area as our two-colour Roland, one of which it is replacing, while its state-of-the-art construction and electronics makes it extremely productive and easy to use.
This is our first press from Komori but the manufacturer has been so helpful that we have complete confidence in both it and the press.
Indeed, Komori was a great deal more interested in trying to understand what we actually wanted to achieve than any of the other press manufacturers we contacted," said Brown.
He described CP Offset as a traditional sheet-fed printer, handling a wide range of print for clients based as far away as Newcastle and Yorkshire.
The pre-press department operates a Highwater Platinum platesetter for outputting CTP plates, while the Darlington company also has a comprehensive finishing section. Request a free brochure from Komori UK ...
