Press's Sophistication Prompts Purchase

The quality, productivity and price were all good but what persuaded the Lexon Group to purchase a five-colour Komori Lithrone NL528EM was the sophistication of the press.

The quality, productivity and price were all good but what finally persuaded the Lexon Group in Newport (Wales) to purchase a five-colour Komori Lithrone NL528EM was the sophistication of the front-end facilities incorporated in the press.

Lexon's operations director Garth Chaney-Davis said: "We're an all Heidelberg house at present, although we also operate screen and digital printing equipment, so the Lithrone NL528EM is our first Komori.

We looked at all the major press manufacturers and the Lithrones could not be beaten in terms of print quality." He continued: "However, where Komori really has the edge is in the area of press controls and how those are linked in to the pre-press environment.

The ability to control colour consistently is very important to us because we want to be able to match litho, screen and digitally printed work.

We also want the option to make the most of CIP3 and JDF when the time is right and Komori provides an open door to those technologies." The company was very impressed by the demonstration given by Komori at its Leeds showroom and in particular the make-ready speeds of the Lithrone, which enabled the press to be effective at short and long run work.

Chaney-Davis continued: "We are a family business, with customers ranging from leading advertising agencies to blue chip corporations, so our ability to provide a fast, quality service is vital." Lexon has purchased its Lithrone NL528EM with Komori's PDC-S colour management system along with a spectrophotometer and CIP3 software.

The press will be equipped with semi automatic plate changing facilities, plus automatic blanket and roller wash.

Komori's PDC-S system uses a spectrophotometer for quick and accurate measurement of the ink density, colour tone, dot gain and other information to establish and maintain print image quality throughout the run.

The high level of automation makes the system very easy to use and extremely effective at controlling colour accuracy, with continuing job data constantly fed back to the control ink keys, said the company.
