The Komori SPICA four-colour convertible perfector delivered last month to Darlington (UK) printer CP Offset is now in full production and managing director Andy Brown is delighted.

"Within its first week of operation the SPICA has produced first class results on stock ranging from 80gsm wove to 300gsm gloss art board.

Most of our runs are under 5,000 so the very quick make-ready on the SPICA is vital.

However, we've also used the new Komori press to print two perfecting jobs, one of which was a 30,000 run of a 32-page two-colour booklet, which was produced extremely efficiently." The 29-inch SPICA replaced a two-colour B2 Roland and Komori has trained the two operators of that machine to use the new press.

Brown added: "The four-colour SPICA takes the same floor area as the two-colour Roland, yet provides us with a huge degree of flexibility.

Swapping between perfecting and four-colour work is easily carried out, whilst the level of automation on the Komori press takes away a lot of the tedious tasks of printing.

The minders are extremely pleased to say the least.

As well as providing a faster turn-around of work to clients, we've already received comments about the exceptionally high print quality that is output from the SPICA." He continued to say that when the company was looking for a replacement B2 press it examined everything that was available from the major suppliers within the GBP 300,000 - GBP 400,000 price band and it could find nothing that competed with the SPICA.

He said: "Within its first week of operation we could see that the Komori press will exceed all our expectations.".
