Spica's Oust Heidelberg Presses, Boost Production
One of Komori's newly-released five-colour Spica 29P 29-inch presses has joined a Lithrone S29 in ousting Heidelberg Speedmaster 72 presses at C K Litho.
The cost of the SPICA has allowed us to buy our first four-colour and first B2 press and enter a new market.
Although we're still aiming at the short run sector the ability to so easily switch to perfecting has enabled us to provide some very keen quotes that have won us a significant amount of work requiring two colours each side." Merrick continued: "We've even produced runs as low as 30 sheets.
For example, if a customer wanted us to produce 50 A2 posters it would previously have cost around five Euros a poster to get them printed outside.
I'm sure I can put 50 sheets through the SPICA for less than 250 Euros.
It's a very versatile press and we've used the perfecting option much more than we imagined we would." Merrick's father, Brian Merrick, started the company in 1977 with a Gestetner 211 and today the company has subsidiaries operating in the office supplies, furniture and signs markets.
Bandon Printers specialises in a variety of commercial work and Robert Merrick said he enjoys the days when there is too much work for the SPICA to handle.
"I love operating the SPICA and if the day shift hasn't managed to get everything done that they need to, then I'll take over and run it myself during the evening, or night. Request a free brochure from Komori UK ...
The small footprint of the SPICA makes it very space economic and we've printed a huge range of jobs on stock from carbonless paper to 400gsm board.".
