The quest for quality led NB Colour Print to invest in two B2 Komori Lithrone 28 presses over the last three months.

The quest for quality led NB Colour Print to invest in two B2 Komori Lithrone 28 presses over the last three months.

The Chorley, Lancashire (UK) printer commissioned its first five-colour Lithrone 528 last December and a six-colour Lithrone 628 has just been installed.

The press duo completes a three-year period of investment across the company that has included a move to Creo CTP, Brisque workflow and 100 per cent adoption of FM screening.

Both new Komori presses are fully networked with the pre-press department to receive CIP3 data for automatic on-press ink profiling.

Production capacity and efficiency has increased as a result and on-press accuracy is achieved at speed.

In addition, the company can make the decision on which press to place the job at the last minute, which has increased flexibility and press management.

The new presses upgrade two 1996 A2 Komori Lithrone 26 presses.

NB Colour Print's chief executive, Ken Iddon, said: "We moved up in size because B2 is the best format to cover the majority of commercial print jobs today, and we increased colour units to give us more flexibility to handle special colours.

It's important too that jobs are interchangeable on both presses." He added: "We have steadily improved standards throughout the business, which is attracting customers all over the UK who are looking for perfectly printed, high value, brochures, calendars and catalogues.

The combination of FM screening and Komori presses is producing top class quality.

Working with FM screening is challenging and you have to be determined to make it work but the results are fantastic.

From 25 micron screening when we began, we are now working with 20 microns." NB Colour Print said that the Komori presses have played a large part in the success of the business and, although it evaluated other presses before deciding on Komori for this upgrade, the deciding factors were build quality, print quality, and service support, explained Iddon.
