Komori SPICA Perfecting Press In
Expansion Plan

Neon Printers, in Johannesburg (South Africa) has installed a Komori SPICA 29P as part of an expansion programme, which is expected to increase the company's annual turnover by up to US$2million.

Neon Printers, in Johannesburg (South Africa) has installed a Komori SPICA 29P as part of an expansion programme, which is expected to increase the company's annual turnover by up to US$2million The SPICA four-colour, convertible perfecting press was ordered alongside a Screen Platerite 8100 CTP system and Trueflow workflow, through South African distributor Kemtek

The installation replaces one existing two-colour Heidelberg machine.

Basheer Haffejee, managing director of Neon Printers, said: "We needed to reinvest in our pre-press and printing divisions to respond to a growing demand for four-colour work.

It was not practical or cost effective to print full colour work with our existing set-up.

Since going live with the SPICA press, we have experienced a 30 per cent increase in productivity." He added: "It has accelerated our production so dramatically that we are now quoting customers an average of three days to turn around a job instead of the usual six." Komori said that the SPICA produces full colour work in one pass, meaning Neon no longer has to outsource CMYK jobs and the company has cut costs by 30 per cent as a direct result of keeping the work in-house.

Komori's SPICA has a small footprint and can accommodate a range of stocks.

It is said to be suitable for the sheet-fed B2 printer, and offers enhanced efficiency via its automated plate and perfecting change-over capabilities.

Haffejee commented: "We take in a lot of magazine and brochure printing and the versatility of the SPICA was a main attraction for us.

We can switch from straight four-colour printing to perfecting in a matter of minutes, and the time saved with make-readies has given us a real competitive edge.

Our client portfolio will undoubtedly grow due to our improved operation as we are able to provide intricate, high quality work at remarkable speeds." Komori said that its SPICA is designed to be a straight-forward, easy to use press.

The operator at Neon Printers received on-the-job training from Kemtek, so it was business as usual at Neon Printers throughout the entire change-over process.

Kemtek will also provide the company with continuing service and maintenance support for the CTP, press and workflow system.

Gavin van Rensburg, chief executive officer of Kemtek, said: "We are pleased to be part of the transformation that has taken place at the company and look forward to assisting Neon Printers with its investments and ventures in the future." Neon Printers, a family owned business, was established in 1981 and has offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Employing 28 people, the company provides full-colour corporate brochures, magazines, journals and business materials for a variety of corporate and small-to-medium sized businesses on a national basis. Request a free brochure from Komori UK ...
