Merseyside (UK) based Printfine has strengthened its press line-up with the order of a six-colour Komori Lithrone S40 and coater.

The B1 press will replace an existing six-colour machine and join two other 40" presses - a Lithrone 240 and Lithrone 540 with coater.

The commercial print house, which was founded in 1975 and employs 60 staff, is planning a relaunch that coincides with the region being awarded the status of UK capital of culture for 2008.

Printfine's regular customers include pharmaceutical companies Bristol-Myers Squibb, HSE and finance houses The Halifax and Royal Liver.

Typical jobs vary from runs of 1,000 to 200,000.

The new Komori LS 640+C replaces an existing model and the new features of the press, which include Komori's colour control and management system (PDCS), fully-automatic plate changing and KHS pre-inking and de-inking system, will make transform the company's production capabilities, said Komori.

Printfine's sales director, Alan Coleman, commented: "Komori offered us the best deal for our re-investment and as we have a long-standing history with the company we made the decision to commit to being a Komori house.

We have always received excellent back up, service and parts support." He continued: "We expect to see big improvements in production times using the new press.

The make-ready and running speeds are much faster and the new features, such as PDCS, will enable us to print an extra 2,000 sheets an hour.

These state-of-the art features will enable Printfine to compete at the highest level at extremely competitive prices." Installation is due to commence in July or August.

Printfine has also updated its pre-press and repro department and will follow the press installation with further investment in finishing equipment.
