Recently merged Impress Printers in the UK has increased production capacity and is set to target the high-end market following the installation of a four colour Komori Spica 429 Perfector press.

The West Yorkshire printer bought out and joined forces with a local competitor and now has the potential to increase production and double turnover.

The merger has increased the workforce to 10 and the new press will enable Impress to produce the volume of work that its customers are demanding.

Impress's B3 four-colour and digital presses were unable to cope with the volume or quality.

The Spica's automation includes tool free plate clamping (SAPC), automatic ink roller and blanket wash, as well as a fully automatic change-over between straight printing and perfecting.

Those features suit the variety of work that Impress receives, both short magazine and long leaflet runs.

Impress's managing director, Abdullah Yusuf, appreciated the outstanding support he received from Komori: "The Spica offered the best value for money on the market but it's the Komori people that really made the difference.

From beginning to end the service was first class.

During any installation you expect problems to arise but any hiccups were resolved amicably.

The installation crew's commitment went a long way." Impress has also just installed a Screen CTP system and increased its finishing department to three folders so it can offer customers on-site plate making and in-house finishing.

It has upgraded its computer system and aims to be ready to invest in a second press within 12 months.
