Romanian Printer Buys 16pp Komori Press

Infopress, a full-service printing house in Romania, has invested in Komori's flag-ship System 38S 16-page web offset press to increase the company's market share in the Romanian magazine market.

Infopress, a full-service printing house in Romania, has invested in Komori's flag-ship System 38S 16-page web offset press to increase the company's market share in the Romanian magazine market and to support the company's expansion in to the rest of eastern Europe Ordered at Ipex last April, the press was installed in August-October and is scheduled to enter full operation in November

Lazlo Szabo Benczo, technical manager of Infopress, said: "The print market in Romania is booming at present.

In the last two years we have noticed a strong growth in the commercial and magazine print market - our production has increased by over 20 per cent alone." Infopress chose the new Komori System 38S press to increase its capacity.

The four-colour, 16-page web press features APC plate change and an in-line, half-cut folder.

Its integrated KHS-AI (advanced interface) control system is said to provide one-step register adjustment, colour matching and fold adjustment to shorten make-ready times and minimise paper waste.

Szabo added: "We opted for the Komori's System 38S with this particular specification to obtain an overall better quality and to increase our production capacity.

We did consider other makes of press but Komori had it all - quality, technology and delivery." The press joins three other existing web presses and three offset presses and it will enable Infopress to meet the upsurge in demand, said Komori.

Szabo explained: "We have the flexibility to fit the job to the press and have the ability to distribute the workload very efficiently across our presses.

This is an important investment for us and ensures we can maintain our leadership in the high circulation magazine and retail brochures market." Infopress has geared up its pre-press and finishing departments to accommodate and streamline the volume of work it handles.

Two platesetters produce all the plates that are required for all the presses.

A Screen B1 Platerite 8600 CTP unit and Screen VLF Platerite Ultima 32000 platesetter, said to be capable of producing plates up to a maximum 2,100mm x 1,600mm at 29 plates per hour, or over 50 plates per hour imaging two B1 plates simultaneously.

A new Mulller Martini Corona C12 perfect binding line and a Buhrs 3000 individual wrapping and addressing machine also complement the new Komori System 38S press.

Infopress is a full-service printing house and part of Kvos, a multinational investment company based in Iceland that owns several printing (including Oddi, OPM and Gutenberg), publishing, marketing and office supplies retail companies throughout Iceland, USA, Poland and Romania.
