New Komori Press Offers Competitive
Long-Run Work

MPD Offset in Swindon (UK) has installed a five-colour Komori Lithrone S29 and coater to enable it to add competitively priced longer run litho work to the print portfolio it currently offers.

MPD Offset in Swindon (UK) has installed a five-colour Komori Lithrone S29 and coater to enable it to add competitively priced longer run litho work to the print portfolio it currently offers That range of work includes digital work, a copy shop and large format, as well as litho print

The 29-inch Lithrone S529 and coater includes CIP 3 and Spectrometer and it is fulfilling the company's expectations for moving MPD forward.

The company has already run 15 four-colour jobs through the press in one day with time to spare and capacity has been increased by up to three times, said Komori.

The new Komori press means MPD will now also be a serious contender in the longer run print market, added the company.

MPD's founder, Graham Seeley, commented: "Throughout MPD's history we have always been known for being technologically progressive and embracing the latest technology; we were one of the first printers in the UK to buy an Indigo digital press 10 years ago and we have also been running CTP for years.

It was getting to the stage where we were only competitive on shorter run jobs and our five colour Heidelberg press was costing us too much in time on longer runs.

We are totally dedicated to providing our customers with excellent quality and service and this meant the need for a more efficient press." He continued: "We had always been a Heidelberg house but when we saw the demonstrations on the LS529 press at Ipex and Workshop 06 we were convinced that the Komori technology is considerably more advanced and includes so many more features for the cost.

The difference in price for the equivalent Heidelberg machine is massive and would have meant paying for features we didn't need." And Seeley added: "We are benefiting from the features and automation on this press and the quality is fantastic.

I am really happy with the way Komori has responded to any issues and the service has been excellent.

Our only problem now is we can make ready and print a 500 run job faster than we can output a set of plates." MPD prints for clients, designers and agencies.

The company has also recently invested in a Duplo bookletmaker, two guillotines and a folder and can finish most jobs in-house.

It has just been awarded ISO 9001 2000 and became Investors in People accredited in May 2005.

Phil Holland, Komori's regional sales manager for the southern region, commented: "We have been talking to MPD for some time and are thrilled that it has decided to install a Komori.

I am sure that the level of automation on the press will allow it to be very competitive in these tough market conditions and I am looking forward to a long relationship between our two companies." MPD was started in 1985 as one of a group of three companies (the others based in London) and it was bought out four years later by original founder Graham Seeley, who runs the business and manages a 23-strong team of long standing employees.

The company turns over a GBP1.7 million and has grown year on year, moving to larger premises, investing in new technology and increasing the amount of work put through the presses.

The company offers a complete service to local and national businesses, from brochures and mock-ups of packaging for use in supermarket trials to television advertisements, through to photocopying and large format posters. Request a free brochure from Komori UK ...
