Selsey Installs First Komori to Speed Production

A Komori UK product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jul 3, 2007

Selsey Press has installed its first Komori in a mission to to speed up changeover and raise the speed of production

The five-colour Lithrone S29, highly acclaimed for its automation and changeover speeds, has been in operation for a month and is already impressing operators by turning jobs around in under twenty minutes.

The 29in Komori replaced an old Akiyama in the printers' quest to go 'faster and better'.

Selsey Press has traditionally been a Heidelberg, Akiyama and Sakurai house, running a six-colour Heidelberg, a four-colour Akiyama and B2 and B3 Sakurais, but the order for a new Komori was signed for its short run capability, exceptionally short make-ready and quick turnaround performance.

The Chichester based print shop was set up in 1963 by John Tyler, now chairman, and is today run by managing director Derrick Tyler.

The company employs 27 and produces high quality print in the finance, charity and art sectors.

Run lengths vary greatly from day to day, from a one off job of seventeen copies up to runs of over 200,000 sheets.

The extensive automation, including full APC, blanket washing and impression cylinder cleaning, means the Lithrone S29 is ideal for handling short-run work profitably.

Derrick Tyler, managing director, comments, "None of us know what the future of the industry holds, except that demand for faster turnaround and improved quality will only increase".

"Customers expect litho quality at digital speed whilst keeping costs low and this is the reason we chose the Komori Lithrone S29".

"The installation process ran smoothly and Komori provides a very good personal service".

"The APC is a fantastic feature and changeover times have literally been reduced by half".

As well as the seven litho presses, Selsey Press operates digital and inkjet presses and an extensive bindery.

The company has a pre-press and design studio and has also recently invested in new finishing kit.

Komori general sales manager (South), Phil Holland, comments: "Selsey Press really tested the capabilities of the Komori LS29 during their visits to our showroom by printing a wide variety of quality work with very quick make-ready times and running speeds".

"The press performs exceptionally well and we look forward to a long lasting partnership between our two companies.".
