Enveloper, Wrapping And Inserter At DM Fair
KAS Paper Systems will be exhibiting examples of its enveloping, polywrapping and inserting equipment for the direct marketing industry at the International Direct Marketing Fair - Stand No.
With growing demands on the capacity and capability of what we had to offer as a business, we had to take a hard look at what equipment was generally available in the market and the ability of the manufacturers to respond to our needs," recalled Eric Suttill, CPM's managing director.
"A straightforward off-the-shelf proposition was not the best solution and it was only after lengthy discussions with KAS about its modular approach to equipment manufacture that an ideal solution, tailored to CPM's needs, was generated," he commented.
A module of four insert stations with an integrated document track is used as a multiple feeder system on-line to either the Mailmaster 465 envelope inserter or the Integra magazine inserter.
With the Integra magazine inserter left on-line to the polywrapper, the feeders can be wheeled away and pushed in to place either feeding the Mailmaster enveloper or Integra.
"We decided to purchase a new mailing machine that could handle envelope sizes up to C4 because our old Philipsburg machine could only insert in to DL and C5 envelopes.
We were doing more and more C4 inserting work by hand, which was time consuming.
We mail out a wide range of jobs with runs up to half a million envelopes or more," said Denis Hunnisett, Priory's production manager.
Although CPM still operates the Philipsburg for smaller format jobs when the company is exceptionally busy, the Mailmaster is now its main workhorse.
"It's robust and very easy to set up.
You can train anybody to use it in just over a day.
The big advantage is its versatility," added Hunnisett.
Although the majority of the direct mail was fed into paper envelopes, polywrapping was a growing part of the business for Priory said KAS.
"Previously we had to hand collate the documents prior to insertion into the polywrapper but now we wheel across the inserting stations to the polywrapper to feed it automatically.
The Integra has its own integral bookfeeder and, together with the four inserting stations and a hand feed inserting facility, we can insert up to six items into each magazine.
There is a further document feeder to lay an A4 carrier sheet on top of a magazine or a booklet.
By automating the insertion, we can complete a job in about 20 per cent of the time it used to take us manually to collate and insert the material," explained Hunnisett.
The Integra is designed to insert a variety of documents inside a magazine or folder cycling up to 4,000 filled items an hour.
Different models are available depending upon the size of the item into which the documents are being inserted, ranging from 210mm x 100mm up to 230mm x 305mm.
The magazine feeder will feed up to seven millimetres thick, with the option to increase it to 10mm.
The standard insert stations handle items from 160mm x 90mm up to A4, with maximum thickness of two millimetres.
The machine can be used as a multiple feeder system for almost any polywrapper on the market, whether the material is inserted inside the magazine first or not claimed KAS.
A KAS Fast Sheet Feeder with OMR, BCR or OCR reading facility can be added up stream to select inserts before inserting into the book or folder added the company.
