Cost-Effective Quick Creasing At Digital Print
KAS Paper Systems is to launch the Crease Matic 150, a programmable card creaser, which has been produced for the short to medium run digital print market.
In this instance the sets were pre-collated and stapled and so KAS adapted the system to feed the stapled sets and fold them before insertion in to an envelope.
Plimsoll, which produces financial analysis for senior managers and decision makers around the world, regularly sends out stapled sheets of data to subscribers and potential subscribers.
"In the 15 years since I joined the company, I had not been able to find a machine that could satisfactorily fold a stapled set of up to six sheets and insert them in to an envelope with a letter.
Although it may sound simple enough, I can assure you that it is not.
We had such a lot of problems with sheets being damaged or torn that we resorted to hand folding and inserting," said Plimsoll's manager, David Pattison.
He continued: "A lot of their competitors seem to have ignored the problem but KAS came up with the Set Collector Folder end station, which is a very simple and well engineered product.
We are now able to feed the stapled sets with no problems at all." Productivity has rocketed since Plimsoll automated the procedure.
The personnel, who were hand inserting, have been redeployed on other work.
"It's been very useful because we have been able to expand our business without taking on any more staff.
It's a reliable machine, which is easy to operate.
Unlike some of the competitive machines, which have thin, light fold plates, the Mailmaster is very well built.
The fold plates are very strong, which is essential because they get very heavy use, folding the multi-page stapled sets," said Pattison.
