Dutch printing house Janssen Pers Rotatiedruk, a longstanding KBA customer based in Gennep, has ordered an extension to the single-width Continent web press it installed in 1999 The extension comprises two reel stands and four printing units

The package also includes automation and control upgrades plus a partial reconfiguration of the existing Continent press line, whose colour capabilities and web leads were expanded just last year.

Following the capacity boost, which is scheduled for completion in autumn2004, the 45,000 copies-per-hour (cph) single-floor press will have a total of ten H-type units totalling 40 couples, eight Megtec Amal reel stands and two KBA AF 16 folders with a 2:2:2 cylinder ratio.

The Continent has a 578mm (223/4") cut-off and can handle any web width from 685 to 1,000mm (27" - 391/2").

Eighteen million copies of 110 different titles are distributed each week from the company's Gennep facility, where the Continent runs alongside other KBA presses.

These include an Express, a Compacta S and Compacta 30, a 1996-vintage Comet with an infrared dryer and a Comet with a hot-air dryer.

The presses print a broad spectrum of daily, weekly and Sunday titles plus free titles, supplements, special-interest monthlies, inserts and direct mail products in runs of several millions.

In addition to its own titles the group also does contract work for a customer base extending into Germany.

Janssen is also the biggest publisher of free publications in southeast Netherlands. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
