The world's largest flexo newspaper production installation is growing even bigger.

The world's largest flexo newspaper production installation is growing even bigger.

Harmsworth Quays Printing, printers of the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard and London Metro, is busy replacing the 1980s-vintage equipment at its Surrey Docks production plant with new-generation KBA Flexo-Courier gearless presses for four back four production.

When the upgrade is completed at the end of 2004 the two parallel tower press lines will boast a total of eight 5:5 folders, 64 automatic reel stands and 320 couples, and will print more than two million copies a day.

The Flexo-Courier has a maximum web width of 1,680mm (66") and a maximum rated output of 80,000copies per hour (cph) in straight mode.

The gearless, oil-free printing units have dedicated AC drives for each cylinder.

Harmsworth Quays is controlled by Associated Newspapers, the management company for the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard and London Metro.

Associated Newspapers is part of Daily Mail and General Trust.

DMGT has substantial global interests in newspapers, TV, radio, exhibitions and information publishing.
