Already in action at a string of printing plants, the UV version of the KBA Genius 52 press will be demonstrated at Drupa printing smart cards on 0.6mm (24pt) PVC film and other products on plastic.

The KBA stand will also feature Metronic's universal ID system, Universys, in which inkjet can be custom-integrated with other processes such as hot stamping to support personalisation.

Two other pioneers of waterless offset, Japanese plate manufacturer Toray and its German distributor Ernst Marks in Muhlheim (Marks-3zet), will run demonstrations on KBA presses in a waterless competence centre on the Marks-3zet stand in Hall 3.

The Marks-3zet stand at Drupa will also see the world premiere of a B2 waterless offset press featuring the keyless inking system incorporated in the 74 Karat.

Developed at KBA's Radebeul facility, the Rapida 74G is claimed to achieve the same low level of start-up waste (a claimed maximum of 10 sheets) and delivers the same print quality as the 74 Karat, but with just one doctoring system, one screen roller and one forme roller.

The press to be unveiled in Dusseldorf will be a four-colour version with coater and delivery extension.

Alongside a sophisticated temperature control system the G version of the Rapida 74 boasts the same features (automatic plate change, remote format and register control and JDF workflow integration) as its stable mate, the Rapida 74, which has conventional roller-type inking units.
