Cambridge Newspapers Expands With KBA Performance
Cambridge Newspapers is planning to expand its newspaper contract printing with a pressroom investment in back to back colour facilities.
The deal, which was announced in November 2003, is part of KBA's strategy of diversifying into what it believes are niche markets with significant potential.
Metronic, based near KBA's Wurzburg (Germany) operation manufactures its products for industrial applications, as well as UV offset printing systems for CDs, DVDs, DCRs and plastic cards.
KBA and Metronic entered an alliance more than two years ago to develop and market the Genius 52, a small-format sheetfed press which unites Metronic's UV technology for printing on plastic and KBA's oil-based inking technology for printing on paper and board.
The new subsidiary will retain a large degree of independence and flexibility in addressing its established markets, but will be able to call on KBA's personnel, resources and sales distribution support.
Reinhart Siewert, KBA's former president and now a member of the supervisory board, has been appointed chairman.
Torald Rohloff will be vice-chairman.
KBA deputy president Claus Bolza-Schunemann is also on the board.
Metronic is targeting sales worth 36m Euros, ($46.2m) for 2004. Request free introductory details about products from KBA ...
