World's Longest Press Has Maximum Effect
For KBA

Right on time for Drupa 2004, the Neuss-based print shop Meinke is putting the world's longest press for coating print products into operation.

Right on time for Drupa 2004, the Neuss-based print shop Meinke is putting the world's longest press for coating print products into operation and letting trade visitors to Drupa share in its world premiere Costing 4.5 million Euros and at 24.32 metres long, the new KBA Effectpress has a total of 14 printing, varnishing and drying units

It can print on two sides in five colours in one pass and, at the same time, coat on two sides with UV gloss and matte varnish.

Dirk Ackerknecht, managing partner of Meinke Print Media Partners developed the idea for the world's longest medium-format sheetfed offset press.

The key to this development lies in hybrid ink technology.

The press is configured with five inking units for normal and hybrid inks, followed by a varnishing unit for dispersion and UV varnishing as well as two intermediate drying units with infrared hot-air and UV driers.

The sheets are turned automatically and pass through further inking, varnishing and drying units of the same design.

The first inking units apply type or graphics with hybrid inks, while a further inking unit applies mineral oil-based offset inks to the remaining areas.

After intermediate drying, the whole sheet is coated with a UV varnish in the varnishing unit and then UV-dried.

In connection with Drupa, Meinke Print Media Partner will be opening its doors to interested trade visitors for 14 days.

Visitors can reach Meinke courtesy of a shuttle service from the KBA stand at Drupa.

As well as the world's longest medium-format sheetfed offset press, the company will also be presenting the latest Polar cutter as well as a Creo Lotem Quantum 800 for CTP with 20 u Staccato screening for photo-realistic printing in service.

Meinke, a well-known family-run business with an almost 80-year history, is said to be one of Germany's most sophisticated print shops. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
