KBA Has Eyes On 3D Production At Drupa
HumanEyes, a provider of advanced and affordable lenticular systems and Koenig and Bauer AG (KBA) have formed a strategic alliance to bring 3D mainstream.
Human Eyes, a provider of advanced and affordable lenticular systems and Koenig and Bauer AG (KBA) have formed a strategic alliance to bring 3D images to the mainstream.
The first product of the alliance is Litho3D Karat software, which optimises HumanEyes' core 3D technology for efficient, high quality KBA Karat output, said the German press manufacturer.
Litho3D Karat software is being showcased by HumanEyes and KBA at Drupa 2004 by KBA at its stand - Hall 16, Stand B45.
KBA said it would be able to demonstrate easy 3D photography capture through to 74 Karat 3D output, twice each day throughout the show.
"HumanEyes' 3D completely alters the imaging landscape for advertising, point of purchase and packaging," said Andreas M?áner, executive vice president of sales at KBA.
"We recognized the significant value HumanEyes could bring when combined with the 74 KARAT and we are excited to offer the marketplace this unique, easy-to-use, application tailored for 74 KARAT output," he added.
M?áner added that 74 Karat customers who take advantage of Litho3D Karat would be able to substantially expand their own services by offering quick turnaround colour, short run 3D.
KBA believes the Karat workflow serves as an ideal platform for HumanEyes 3D technology.
"The 74 Karat's accuracy and ability to do direct printing on plastic reduces make-ready and with HumanEyes makes advanced 3D a genuine production tool in an industrial environment," said Gideon Ben-Zvi, HumanEyes' chief executive officer and president.
Both companies believe that for the first time the market has an affordable, simple photographic 3D method that enables the creation of natural, continuous, realistic 3D images that uses existing equipment - for example, off-the-shelf digital cameras - so no additional capital investment or workflow alterations are necessary.
The method means users can get from RIP to print in just 15 minutes it is claimed.
The software facilitates creation of photographic 3D in addition to existing, popular lenticular effects such as flip, morph and zoom makes the creation of the new images as simple as 2D it is believed.
It offers one time capture, cut and paste, easy drag and drop, and the repeated use of files for any output.
Built-in lenticular intelligence minimizes the ramp-up period with the feasibility of short print-runs to provide an efficient method of printing on lenticular by minimizing material waste.
The claimed system accuracy and colour management allow easy, fast registration and colour balance.
