An investment set to maintain and extend the company's competitive edge is how Surrey printer, Aldridge Print Group has described its purchase of a new KBA Rapida 105 ten-unit sheetfed press.

The KBA Rapida 105 has been developed to offer in medium format, outstanding levels of productivity and substrate versatility with a very high level of automation, said the copany.

With a modern 30,000 sq ft factory at Mitcham (UK), Aldridge Print Group specialises in corporate work, setting high standards for both its print and its in-house operational systems.

Managing director Robert Aldridge, who represents the fourth generation of the company's founding family, leads the company.

Today the Group employs over 60 staff and has a turnover in excess of ?6 million.

The KBA Rapida 105/10 will replace one Heidelberg six colour and one Heidelberg two colour machine.

"I have been happy with the Heidelberg products" said Aldridge, "But we are now attracted by KBA's newer technology, superb print quality and, in particular, the Rapida's ability to print five back five on material up to 700 microns.

As well as this unique ability we were attracted by its sound environmental credentials." He continued: "Today, you need to be of a size to compete well and this new machine as our lead press will give us increased clout in the marketplace." The company has invested in technology and has Dainippon Screen CTP systems, award-winning FM screening and ISO 14001 environmental accreditation, supported by an e-commerce service and its use of Metal FX printing.

Manufactured at KBA's plant at Radebeul near Dresden in Germany, the 105 press has an increasing installation base worldwide and KBA claimed it is being widely ordered by leading printers in the UK.
