German print enterprise B and K Offsetdruck in Ottersweier has ordered a KBA Compacta 217 16-page commercial press as part of a move to grow market share.

German print enterprise B and K Offsetdruck in Ottersweier has ordered a KBA Compacta 217 16-page commercial press as part of a move to grow market share.

The new Compacta 217 will be configured without a folder but with in-line finishing devices and a heavy-duty sheeter capable of handling 70,000 sheets per hour.

The five printing units will all be equipped with automatic plate changers.

Imprinter facilities at the first two printing units will support flying imprint changes even in short-run production, said KBA.

The geometry of the dampening and inking units and the Compacta's ability to handle a wide range of stock weights up to 220gsm (80lb cover) were key factors in B and K's decision.

The press is due to enter production in March 2005.

Since it was established 35 years ago B and K has steadily expanded by specialising in product customisation and a one-stop service from design and development to print.

The company operates six B1 (40") sheetfed offset presses with which it targets the high end of the market.

B and K also currently runs three 16-page web presses, each with five double printing units plus sundry folding and inline-finishing devices.

Fluorescent colour, inline coating and die-cutting are just a few of the features it can offer.

Colour measurement and control systems directly at the presses guarantee a consistently quality it said.

The scale of the company's finishing department is said to be unrivalled in southern Germany, furnishing the capacity and flexibility it needs to support a fast turnaround, high-volume output and product diversity.
