The 50 newspapers with the best print quality worldwide were announced on 20 June in Washington, DC, where they were awarded membership for 2004-2006 in the International Newspaper Colour Quality Club

The 50 newspapers with the best print quality worldwide were announced on 20 June in Washington, DC, where they were awarded membership for 2004-2006 in the International Newspaper Colour Quality Club.

The club, which was established in 1994 as a joint initiative by Ifra, the NAA (Newspaper Association of America) and PANPA (Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers Association), received entries from 180 newspapers in 34 countries.

The winners, from 17 countries, were selected following a three-month evaluation process involving 170,000 measurements plus visual assessments.

Eleven awards went to newspapers printed on KBA presses in Europe and the USA said the German press manufacturer.

For the fourth time running, the award for the best print quality worldwide went to long-time KBA customer OON Druckzentrum in Linz, Austria, for its 'Oberosterreichische Nachrichten'.

Winners of the award for the second time were: Agora in Warsaw and Agora-Poligrafia in Tychy, Poland, ('Gazeta Wyborcza'), Brune-Mettcker in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, ('Wilhelmshavener Zeitung'), Kurierverlag in Neubrandenburg, Germany, ('Nordkurier'), National-Zeitung und Basler Nachrichten in Basel, Switzerland, ('Coopzeitung') and Wegener Nieuwsdruk Twente in Enschede, Netherlands, ('De Twentsche Courant Tubantia').

Wegener Nieuwsdruk Twente also won an award for 'Bild'.

The following KBA newspaper publishing houses were placed on the International Newspaper Color Quality Club roll of honour for the first time: Journal Communications in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, ('Milwaukee Journal Sentinel'), Mediaprint Zeitungs- und Zeitschriftenverlag in Salzburg and St Andr?, Austria, ('Kronen Zeitung'), Tamedia in Zurich, Switzerland, ('Tages-Anzeiger') and Ungeheuer + Ulmer in Ludwigsburg, Germany, ('Ludwigsburger Kreiszeitung').
