The Netherlands and Belgium have been making high-level investments in new web offset capacity over the past six months according to German press manufacturer KBA.

And the company believes that it has booked the biggest volume of sales.

Three 32pp two-around commercial presses are earmarked for Belgium.

Nevada-Nimifi in Brussels has placed an order for a short-grain KBA Compacta 418.

Drukkerij T'Hooft in Aalter will also take delivery of a Compacta 418, but with a special web width for up to 40 pages, making it unique in the market.

And Drukkerij Grafix in Dessel has opted for a long-grain Compacta 408 to print ready-to-sell flyers and magazines.

In autumn 2005 three 6/2 Commander presses, comprising nine reel stands, nine satellite towers with 72 printing couples and three jaw folders, will come on stream at Rossel's new printing plant in Brussels.

De Persgroep in Asse, near Brussels, has chosen an equally unconventional press.

Following Rodi Rotatiedruk near Amsterdam it will press the button on the second 48pp KBA Cortina in the Benelux states.

Automatic plate changing on the waterless Cortina cuts make-ready to a fraction of the time required for a conventional coldset press.

Both newspapers chose the Cortina after conducting cost-efficiency and quality studies for their specific production scenarios said KBA.

A single-width KBA Comet semi-commercial press line with commercial pin folders is to join a sizeable KBA line-up at Dutch printer Janssen/Pers Rotatiedruk in Gennep.
