German press manufacturer KBA has switched to a database-supported website system in order to handle what it has described as a huge increase in online traffic.

The new software enables data to be accessed and downloaded much faster while supporting a more sophisticated design and updating capability.

The Karat website, which predated the incorporation of Karat Digital Press into the KBA group in 2001, has now been integrated in the main website.

All the product, user and service information it contained can be accessed by clicking on 'Digital' under 'Products'.

Over the past few years, website management has been decentralised among KBA's major production plants.

As a result, news coverage has achieved a level of immediacy unequalled by other press manufacturers, believes the company.

Since Drupa 2000 the number of hits on the KBA website has increased tenfold, confirming KBA's philosophy of using the internet to complement conventional media for the rapid, global dissemination of information.

The integration of the Karat site means that existing and prospective users can access all the relevant data and services at a single location.
