A 64-page KBA Colora press will go on edition in early 2006 at the Donaukurier in Ingolstadt (Germany) For managing director Wolfgang Lichtenegger the new press is a major step towards addressing the demands of advertisers and readers for more colour, better print quality and immediacy

The Colora will print the company's same-name title along with various local titles ('Eichstatter Kurier', 'Hilpoltsteiner Kurier', 'Pfaffenhofener Kurier', 'Schrobenhausener Zeitung').

The press will also print frees and journals.

Total circulation is around 83,000 copies Monday to Friday and 93,000 on Saturday.

Daily readership is more than 180,000.

"We toured a number of reference sites," said technical manager Uwe Lehmann, "and were impressed by the performance, operation and quality of a Colora with a similar configuration.

Added to which, KBA customised the press to our precise production and architectural specifications." The floor-mounted Colora will replace a 1991-vintage press supplied by another manufacturer.

It will have a cylinder circumference of 940mm (37"), a maximum web width of 1,260mm (49.5") and a maximum rated output of 75,000 copies per hour (cph) in straight production.

It will be configured with four KBA Pastostar RC reelstands and KBA Patras M reel-handling system, three towers of H units for 4/4 or two 2/2, four turner bars, a folder superstructure with two formers and a 2:3:3 KF 3 jaw folder with stitcher.

Automation modules include ink pumping, EAE's job scheduling and press preset system, a RIP interface, diagnostics PC and quality control systems for colour register. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
