Milan-based newspaper publisher Societa Europea di Edizioni is upgrading its production line with two single-width KBA Continent press lines.

Milan-based newspaper publisher Societa Europea di Edizioni is upgrading its production line with two single-width KBA Continent press lines.

The move will support the conversion to tabloid of the company's main title and one of the country's leading dailies, 'Il Giornale', whose circulation of 300,000 copies reaches 900,000 readers.

Each of the two floor-mounted press lines is configured as eight four-high towers for 4/4 with eight reel stands positioned at right angles and fed by a KBA Patras M reel-handling system.

Other features include automatic blanket washing and a 55,000 copies per hour (cph), 2:3:3 KBA KF 3 jaw folder with ribbon stitcher.

Cylinder circumference is 700mm (27.5") and web width can be varied from 635mm to 1,000mm (25" - 39.5").

Provision has been made for the addition of a hot-air dryer, length and cross perforator, and quarterfold.

The press lines have two consoles apiece incorporating a diagnostics PC and EAE's Inksetter presetting system that receives pre-press data online via a RIP interface.

The two identical press lines will be delivered to Paderno-Dugnano near Milan and Oricola/Carsoli in L'Aquila province, north-east of Rome, early next year.

They follow a contract from Rizzoli Corriere della Sera (RCS) for nine Commander and two Comet tower presses that are currently being delivered to production plants in Pessano, Rome, Padua, Bari, Catania and Genoa.

KBA also said that another Italian newspaper has signed up for an additional two-across KBA Comet but it has not yet released the details of the deal.
