KBA believes it will be able to deliver even more services to printers in the packaging industry from the beginning of 2005 through specialist advice of a packaging specialist, Werner Seidel.
Seidel (48) will be working from KBA's Radbeul (Germany) plant to offer packaging companies his advice and assistance on productivity and process optimisation, materials flows, process technology, quality management and investments in new equipment.
KBA hopes that European companies would recognise the service as a contribution to their competitiveness in a market characterised by production relocation to low-wage countries and would view it as an augmentation of their own knowledge.
Werner Seidel came up through the offset printing trade before acquiring further qualifications in business administration.
He has been active in managerial positions in various print enterprises and was for the past 14 years responsible for technical developments at CD Cartondruck in Obersulm.
During that time, he set up pilot lines for both sheetfed offset and sheetfed gravure print, dispersion calendaring for high-quality finishing and cutting and gluing technologies.
He optimised the existing plant and accompanied investments in future-oriented machinery from a variety of different manufacturers through to practical implementation.
At the same time, Seidel worked on procedures and materials logistics, quality monitoring and control amongst a number of aspects of folding carton production for the cosmetics market.
He was also a member of the technical committee of the German Carton Makers Association (FFI), chairing the committee for two years.
