Industriedruck Dresden notched up its 10th anniversary with the installation of a new KBA Rapida 105, which was manufactured in Dresden.

Industriedruck Dresden notched up its 10th anniversary with the installation of a new KBA Rapida 105, which was manufactured in Dresden.

With the B1 medium-format press, Industriedruck Dresden said intends to increase its presence across Germany in the high-volume, time-sensitive print market.

Industriedruck is a typical commercial printing company with in-house pre-press, letter shop and direct marketing capabilities.

The product range is correspondingly wide and diversified, including books, brochures, catalogues, magazines, newspapers, flyers, packaging, stationary, forms, mailings and labels, with a particular focus on magazine covers a speciality of the company that is time-critical.

The increasing demand for high-gloss, high-brilliance magazine covers necessitated decisions regarding new technologies to secure future production for the company.

Two alternatives were possible - either stay with established work practices and invest in a new, conventional-style UV press or make a fundamental change in technology towards an inline UV coating press.

Industriedruck decided in favour of the second alternative.

"With low circulations, it does not matter greatly if a second UV coating pass is necessary, or even whether a press runs at 15,000 sheets per hour (sph) or 18,000sph but in our company it does," said Industriedruck managing director Karl Bever.

KBA said that there were two main reasons in favour of the Rapida 105.

On one hand, the company said it is the only press that is currently available with a speed of 18,000sph, which means 20 per cent more productivity than other conventional presses, claimed KBA.

Secondly, Industriedruck said it was impressed by KBA's technological leadership in inline coating facilities.

The five-colour press plus coater and delivery extension includes a hybrid package.

It also features the new shaftless Drivetronic Feeder and fully automatic FAPC plate changing as standard, as well the sidelay-free Sensoric Infeed System (SIS), as presented at Drupa.

Ink-line ink supply systems, ink temperature control and special roller coatings for low-alcohol printing are further highlights of the press.

The anilox coating system from Harris and Bruno is said to provide the flexibility for fast and simple changes between UV and conventional water-based varnishes.

The extraction of all emissions at the sheet delivery and the separate installation of the compressors establish optimum conditions for the press operators and improve the general climate in the printshop said KBA.

The Rapida 105 is integrated into the digital workflow of the company, allowing pre-press data to be used directly for the press presetting.

The Densitronic S quality measurement and control system is said to ensure constant print quality.
