It was a remarkable win for the people at Eire's Meath Chronicle Print as the company upstaged all other daily and weekly national newspapers to win the top UPM-Kymmene Award for National Newspapers with its production of the Irish Daily Mirror (May 20) A former winner in the regional newspaper category, this year was the first time a provincial newspaper printer claimed the top national award and marked the first time in many years that neither The Irish Times nor the Irish Independent failed to claim first place

The winning issue had a print run of 100,000 copies and was produced at the company's Mullaghboy, Co Navan production site.
A KBA Colora press printed the wining title.
To ensure further success Meath Chronicle Print has ordered a press expansion from KBA which, when delivered during mid-2005, will expand the press to three full towers, a half-H for mono printing, four Pastostar RC reelstands with a KBA Patras M reel-handling system, one KF 3 jaw folder and two EAE consoles.
When accepting the award, Paul Davis, managing director of Meath Chronicle Print, thanked all employees of the company for their skill and determination to succeed, adding.
"Never before has a regional printer won the national category, its a fantastic achievement and one that everyone in the company can be proud of.
Here's to more of the same next year," he said.
The award was presented by Helmut Clissman, the managing director of UPM Kymmene Ireland.
Meath Chronicle Print claimed its second victory of the 2004 Irish Print Awards by winning the Typetec Award for the best printed regional newspaper category.
It is the second year in a row the company has won the regional category.
This time it was the company's printing of the Westmeath Independent (issue August 21 2004) that claimed the top prize.
With a run length of 11,000, the winning issue was also printed on Meath Chronicle Print's Colora press. Request a free brochure from KBA ...
