To be able to handle increased demand and to further strengthen its market position in central Italy, Rotopress International has opted to invest in another semi-commercial Comet press with printing tower, folder and dryer from Koenig and Bauer (KBA).

The order also encompasses expansion of one tower of an existing press line from four to eight printing couples.

The newly ordered Comet, with a cut-off length of 598.5mm for a maximum web width of 914mm, is to be installed in Loreto in mid-2005 and will permit production integration with the existing press.

The scope of delivery includes a printing tower, KF 3 jaw folder (2:3:3 cylinder ratio) with semi-commercial package, heatset package (hot-air dryer, chill rollers, web edge and centre control, as well as a silicone unit) and two EAE consoles.

Air-jet shrink wheels, colour and cut-off register controls and automatic blanket washing provide for a high level of productivity and constant print quality, while a gluing device, length and cross perforators, a quarterfold and a section stitcher support a wide choice of inline finishing options said KBA.

Rotopress International produces newspapers and semi-commercial publications on a KBA Comet press line with heatset package that was delivered in 2002.

Nine split editions of the tabloid newspaper 'Il Resto del Carlino' are printed each night between 10p.m.

and 4a.m., to be followed up during two day shifts by numerous frees (advertising journals, weeklies) and semi-commercial products such as magazines, catalogues and direct mailings for travel operators and industrial clients.

The combination of print quality and very favourable per-copy costs has enabled Rotopress to win various new customers and orders, commneted KBA.

Rotopress is a subsidiary of two prominent Italian print companies - Grafica Editoriale Printing and Tecnostampa Industria Grafica.

Grafica Editoriale Printing belongs to the Poligrafici Editoriale media group in Bologna, the publisher of the daily newspapers 'Il Giorno', 'La Nazione' and 'Il Resto di Carlino', with three million daily readers.

Tecnostampa, part of the Pigini group, has been running medium-format and large-format Rapida presses from KBA for many years and is one of the leading Italian sheetfed printers.
